Math Imagined Philosophy

Math Imagined LLC was founded to provide parents of children from Kindergarten to 12th Grade with an alternative to the traditional math education system. We specialize in teaching from a more visual, hands on, and fun standpoint than is normally done. Whatever your child’s math needs may be, we strive to meet them where they are and help them achieve their goals.

Multi-sensory Math

Multi-sensory learning involves using multiple senses to learn information and gain a deeper understanding.  Our multi-sensory math instruction involves the use of manipulatives, visual aids, and hands on activities among other tools.

Self Exploration and Discovery

We encourage students to explore relationships between numbers, and to discover concepts and resulting formulas for themselves.  Our “Concrete – Representation – Abstract” (CRA) approach demonstrates the math behind the symbols, making this even easier.

Math is Fun

Not everything in life is fun but learning can be.  We work hard to make sure our students are engaged and enjoying the learning process through use of games and other activities.  We also work to show where these concepts apply in the world around us whenever possible.

So Why Choose Math Imagined?

We Use Visuals and Manipulatives to Help Students Truly Understand Concepts

Our tutors make use of various pictures and manipulatives, such as base ten blocks and cuisenaire rods. These are used to help students understand concepts more deeply than they would just looking at symbols. For example, I can tell you that a Fossa is a relatively small reddish brown carnivorous animal that lives in Madagascar but, until you see a picture of one, the word “Fossa” probably won’t mean a great deal to you.

We Help Students Advance Quickly

Because we use multi-sensory methods, our students are often able to learn and internalize concepts faster than the traditional pace. While, of course, this does not replace practice, our students have an edge and it allows them to meet whatever goals they are working towards at an accelerated rate. For example, our techniques are known to help students as young as five or six solve algebraic equations, work with integers, and more.

We Have Fun!

No one wants to do something that’s boring and difficult, which is why we don’t. It is important to us that our students enjoy any classes they take with us, and we do our best to make them fun and engaging with games and hands on activities.

We Help Students Build Confidence

most important factors impacting how well students will do in their academic ventures and life overall is confidence. We hope to give them a boost by helping them set, meet, and attain their math related goals.

We Foster Problem Solving and Critical Thinking

Math is a great tool to teach students how to think about and solve problems. We are all about capitalizing on that opportunity, and encourage students to contemplate concepts, explore patterns, and find ways to work through the problems they are facing.

Math Imagined LLC Founder

My name is Crystal, I have been tutoring mathematics since I was sixteen and love sharing my passion for the subject with others! I have a degree in mathematics and actuarial science, and have spent a great deal of time studying alternative methods of teaching children math, including Mortenson Math with base ten blocks, Gattegno with Cuisenaire rods, and more.

While I'm definitely a math nerd in current times, I didn't start out that way. As a child I ran from anything remotely related to numbers, convincing myself that mathematics was just too difficult, confusing, and useless. Though I completely disagree with that opinion now, I understand the struggles many students have. My goal is to help others see how cool and fun math really is.

Fun Fact: I love traveling and exploring new places!

Hi I’m Sideeq! I am an Applied Mathematics major at Rutgers University.  I have tutored for math courses at varying levels to students ranging from elementary school to college. Currently I enjoy using my background in mathematics to work on data science projects. As a tutor for Math Imagined, I look forward to helping students achieve excellency and proficiency in their math courses.
